On the 28th of June of 2023 United Species held a workshop focused on the ReFi community to understand the importance of social and environmental integrity when designing and financing climate action projects and portfolios.
The idea was to put together the main learnings of the international cooperation system within the implementation of the REDD+ mechanism and the IUCN NbS Framework, to make the ReFi community count with the tools to leapfrog towards real integrity in climate action.
The topics of the workshop were:
- Introduction to Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
- Learnings from the precedents of NbS: Ecosystems-based Approaches and Ecosystems-based Adaptation (EbA).
- The underlying principle of NbS: socio-environmental integrity. Learnings from the IUCN Global Standard and the REDD+ safeguards.
- Challenges for NbS to unleash the needed climate ambition in a context of sustainable development.
