The Nicoya Bioregion, located on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, is going through social and climatic challenges that require urgent adaptation measures so that this “Blue Zone” continues to be recognized for its “quality of life and its sense of community”. (National Geographic, 2011). These special conditions in Nicoya have generated a unique multicultural and multispecies ecosystem that attracts around 700,000 annual visitors from all over the world (ICT, 2019).
On March 23, 2023 we held a workshop with local stakeholders including food producers, hotels, restaurants and environmental activists and NGOs in order to generate a project concept note to address the local problem of waste management and climate vulnerability. The concept note was subsequently filed with the Mercy Corps Venture Capital “Crypto for Good Fund”.
